Submit a "Dear You" letter

Thank you for thinking about submitting a Dear You letter!

If you would like to write a letter like the ones you've read and have it published on the blog, here are the guidelines you should follow while writing:

  • The letter should start with "Dear You"
  • The title should be a sentence from your letter. (i.e. "Your words have power", "It's okay that you're not ready")
  • Try to use language that is applicable to both genders. If you feel like you can't, feel free to email me and we can discuss what you're thinking.
  • Write about something that you are currently learning yourself. I understand that you have many lessons you've learned that mean a lot to you, however, an important part of these letters is for somebody to read them once they're published and know someone else is feeling the same way they are right now.
  • Write like you're writing to someone, even though it's encouragement you need to hear. Remember that you're writing to someone who is learning and wrestling with the same things you are. Use "you" statements. At points you may feel like you're writing to yourself. That's a good thing.
  • Be honest and vulnerable. Let yourself be present on the page.
  • The closing should be "Learning and living with you,"
  • Sign at least your first name. I strongly request that you do not sign anonymously, because we are in this together, trying to embrace ourselves and not hide behind anything. However, I do understand that in order for some stories to be told, a name cannot be shared. I will not resist from sharing your letter if you do not wish to sign your name, but I ask that you greatly consider not signing anonymously before deciding it for sure. Please email me with your reasons why you would like to go anonymous if that is what you would like to do.

Submissions can be emailed to: dearyouwritings@gmail.com

I will read submissions and get back to you as soon as I can. You will receive a reply before it is posted.

Thank you! I'm excited to read what you write!
